As software resellers and implementation service providers, Remedi is typically involved with the migration or new implementation of a comprehensive integration suite from the beginning of a project.  As we go through months of software demos discussing features and functionality, an important part of the project sometimes gets overlooked.  Infrastructure.  There are many important decisions that need to be made regarding infrastructure that will directly impact costs, resources, and timing of a project.

When planning the implementation or upgrade of a new or existing system, considering the whole infrastructure is important.  If you're only focused on the software aspect of your project, you can over look imperative pieces of your architecture.  Remedi has experience with a wide variety of software including, but not limited to IBM's Sterling B2B Integrator.  Below is a checklist of points to consider that's been developed through the course of many installation and upgrade projects.

High level discussion points to consider - "Integration Project Checklist":

  • Platform: Windows, Linux, etcpencil_and_checkboxes
  • Servers: Virtual or physical?
  • Memory recommendations
  • Database: SQL, Oracle, etc...
  • Database disk size recommendations

  • Communication protocols? AS2, FTP, SFTP, SMTP, etc..
  • Interfaces? Internal and external
  • Data movers?
  • Clustering?
  • Load balancers?

Be sure to include database administrators, network engineers, and security as part of the discussion.  Platforms and database decisions are typically made depending on internal staff competencies and experience.  With over 20 years of experience, Remedi will provide industry best practices and architecture recommendations as a guideline.  Check our other references and collateral at www.remedi.com.
